The Auction industry is a booming industry that is continually growing. In 2006, gross sales revenue for live auctions grew 7.1% to $257.2 billion. This represents a $17 billion increase from 2005. Residential real estate was the fastest growth sector by growing 12.5% over 2005. This growth is not only due to a slowing of the traditional listing real estate market, but due to a greater acceptance of the auction method by the public that is utilizing online and onsite auctions in greater numbers. Charity auctions also grew to $16.1 billion in 2006, which is a 6.6 percent increase over 2005. Auctions are a method of selling property in a public forum through open and competitive bidding. Auctions offer a quick and efficient method of determining real market value for household goods, automobiles, antiques, artwork, industrial equipment, livestock, real estate and much more. “Governor Blunt's proclamation of April as Auctioneers Month in Missouri is a great step in recognizing the impact of Auctioneers and the efforts of the MPAA on Missouri's state economy and small business growth. We are proud to be a part of such a vibrant and dynamic industry,” said MPAA President Sandy Smith. The MPAA meets several times per year throughout the state to offer educational and networking opportunities for its members, holds an annual bid calling contest to distinguish the top Auctioneers in the state and publishes a quarterly newsletter.
